Contract Network Infrastructure Engineer

This is a quick moving role-
6+ month contract
You will be responsible for the design, implementation and support of the production and corporate network infrastructure. This position includes core network elements, such as routers and switches, as well as peripheral components integrated into the overall network solution, such as load balancers and firewalls, and other products.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating requirements and come up with a scalable, feasible design that meets these requirements
  • Participating in the implementation of solutions designed by senior engineers or self
  • Providing network technical assistance/support to different users, groups and business as needed
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation of network topologies and/or other technical diagrams
  • Participating in an on-call rotation and being readily available to provide assistance when called upon
  • Performing maintenance activities for the current infrastructure, e.g. software and/or hardware upgrades
  • Attending and/or leading meetings with other departments or groups
  • Working with various vendors and/or third parties as part of the overall network support function
Qualifications:
Education/Certification :
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering preferred
  • CCNP certification preferred, CCIE desired
Required Knowledge:
  • Layer 1 Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of, but not limited to, Ethernet and Fiber Optic cabling management and troubleshooting, device hardware troubleshooting and replacement
  • Layer 2 Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of, but not limited to, Ethernet, Spanning Tree Protocols, VLAN Trunking Protocol (VTP), Virtual LANs (VLANs), port aggregation (PAgP/LACP), Wireless LAN (WLAN) protocols, WAN switching mechanisms (MPLS)
  • Layer 3 Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of, but not limited to Open Shortest Path First (OSPF), Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), IPv4 and IPv6 addressing and subnetting, Layer 3 VPN technologies (VRF, MP-BGP, IPsec), First Hop Redundancy Protocols (HSRP, VRRP), Access Control Lists (ACLs)
  • Multicast Requirements: PIM, MDT, Anycast RP, MSDP
  • Application Delivery Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of load balancing technologies
  • Security/FW Functionality Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of firewall technologies
  • Network Management Requirements: Fundamental knowledge of Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP), NetFlow, IP Flow Information Export (IPFIX), Syslog, TACACS+, RADIUS, Solarwinds
Experience Required:
  • At least 3 years of infrastructure engineer experience (CCNP Level or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working with internal and external customers on network issues
  • Hardware implementation experience
  • Structured cabling experience and/or knowledge of network cabling best practices
  • Experience troubleshooting high availability networks
  • Experience with Cisco, Checkpoint, A10, VMWare, Solarwinds (preferred)
  • Familiar with network protocol analyzers
