Apply to SolidWorks Mechanical Designer
High Voltage Switchgear
Indianapolis, IN 46278
Contract-to-Hire | Full-Time | Onsite
Up to $32/hour
Monday–Friday
If you're good with SolidWorks and enjoy seeing your designs turn into something real, this is worth a conversation.
We're looking for an experienced SolidWorks Mechanical Designer to join a stable, collaborative engineering and manufacturing team supporting High Voltage Switchgear and Circuit Breaker products in Indianapolis.
This is not a short-term project. It's a Contract-to-Hire opportunity designed for someone who wants to come in, learn the operation, contribute to the team and potentially build something long-term.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll work closely with engineering and manufacturing to develop, update and maintain mechanical designs used in high-voltage electrical equipment.
Your day-to-day work will include:
- Creating and modifying detailed 3D models and mechanical drawings in SolidWorks
- Translating engineering concepts and specifications into accurate, manufacturable designs
- Reading and interpreting technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
- Creating and maintaining multi-level indented bills of materials
- Making design revisions and accurately incorporating engineering changes
- Working with engineers and manufacturing personnel to resolve design and production issues
- Maintaining organized and accurate design documentation
- Supporting projects from initial design through manufacturing
- Working within established engineering standards while identifying opportunities to improve designs and processes
- Using SolidWorks PDM or similar document/data-management tools when applicable
What We're Looking For
We're interested in someone who knows SolidWorks beyond the basics and can comfortably work in a real engineering and manufacturing environment.
The strongest candidates will bring:
Solid hands-on SolidWorks experience
Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) certification
Experience developing and modifying mechanical designs and drawings
Ability to read and understand detailed engineering drawings
Experience creating and working with multi-level bills of materials
Strong attention to dimensions, tolerances, revisions and design details
An understanding of how designs ultimately translate to manufacturing
Good communication skills and the ability to work closely with engineering and production teams
SolidWorks PDM experience is highly desirable
Switchgear, circuit breaker, electrical equipment, power distribution or similar industrial manufacturing experience would be especially valuable
Why This One Is Interesting
There are plenty of jobs where you'll spend your day making revisions without ever feeling particularly connected to the finished product.
This isn't one of them.
You'll be supporting equipment used in high-voltage power applications and working alongside the people responsible for actually building it. Your designs matter, accuracy matters, and you'll have the opportunity to see how your work moves from the screen to the manufacturing floor.
It's also Contract-to-Hire.
That gives both sides an opportunity to make sure it's the right long-term fit rather than making that decision based entirely on a few interviews.
Let's Talk
You don't have to be actively looking for a job to have a conversation.
If you're a strong SolidWorks professional and this sounds interesting, we'd like to hear about what you've been doing and where you'd like to go next.
Interested? Let's have a conversation.
